Q: Where is DEN Summer Institute (DENSI) 2020 being held?

Q: When is DENSI 2020?
A: Check-in starts at 3 PM CT on Monday, July 13 and the event concludes at noon on Friday, July 17. 

Q: Who should attend DENSI?
A: DENSI is open to educators who have access to any Discovery Education service, including classroom teachers, school principals, instructional coaches, library media and technology specialists, and other educators interested in a one-of-a-kind professional learning experience.

Q: What is the cost of DENSI 2020?
A: The cost of DENSI 2020 is $1,295 and includes professional learning sessions, networking events, food, and accommodations.

DEN STAR Educators can apply for a scholarship to the event.

Q: How do I get to Loyola University Chicago?
A: The preferred airport is O'hare International Airport (ORD). Transportation to and from Loyola University Chicago is not provided in Discovery Education. Attendees frequently make use of public transportation or carpool from the airport to the Summer Institute site.

Q: Should I rent a car?
A: That is totally up to you, but it will be sitting in a parking lot for 99% of the week. This is a residential-style professional development event, and attendees are expected to remain with the group.

Q: What are the accommodations like?
A: We will be in a residence hall. You will have your own bedroom and will share a bathroom other attendees. A critical part of the Summer Institute experience is time spent networking. This includes informal time spent in residence halls and connecting with attendees. Your full participation is expected. (Trust us, you’re going to love it.)

Q: I have a special diet. Will I have to bring my own food?
A: Please note any special dietary requirements on your attendance confirmation form so that any special dietary needs can be accommodated by the dining hall staff at Loyola University Chicago. You may also want to bring some of your favorite snacks.

Q: I want to fly in the day before DENSI. Can I check in early?
A: Lodging is provided by Discovery Education from 3 PM CT on Monday, July 13 to 12 PM CT on Friday, July 17.

Q: Can I arrive late or leave early?
A: Full participation is expected—this means arriving at the beginning of DENSI and staying until the end. If you are not able to fully participate in the institute, please consider attending other Discovery Education events throughout the year or a future DENSI.

Q: Can I leave during DENSI and go exploring?
A: DENSI days are long and the schedule is full; therefore, there is not time for individuals to explore on their own. It is our expectation that you will take part in the activities and meals with the other attendees. If you want to experience more of the area or region, please consider extending your trip.

Q: Can I bring a guest or significant other with me?
A: We do not accommodate additional guests at Summer Institute. The Summer Institutes are intensive professional development and networking experiences; you will not have time to enjoy the company of your guest.

Q: What does a typical day at DENSI look like?
A: DENSI is an immersive, conference-like experiences. However, it is not like typical education conference. Most days will begin at 8 AM and have activities, sessions, and networking opportunities planned into the early evening, with breaks throughout the days.
